069_ Stock Américain, Mulhouse (68) More infoLess info

This clothes store has been for more than 40 years a landmark in the urban landscape of the center of Mulhouse. The architecture project went beyond its reorganization and refurbishment and created a new visual identity for the store.
A former courtyard has been included in the ground floor layout in order to reorganize the store on one unique level. Windows have been enlarged and skylights have been installed to allow natural light in the store. The visual concept of the store is a re-interpretation of a camouflage pattern, inspired by US army surplus activity of the “Stocks Americains” during these last decades. Our work is based on the use of simple materials. The contrast of their materiality and texture is emphasized by the lighting work. These elements are made of suspended curvilinear whitened wooden panels, artificially lit. Shelving and furniture are also made of light wooden panels, which contrast with the dark and warm grey of the walls and ceiling. The new visual communication of the store is an adaptation of this architectural concept.
